Hi Lindsay, yep I love that soup! Not sure when the recipe dates to, but the 5y I've been here it's always been a popular fall food. Germans love seasonal food, it presents an interesting variety to life and eating. Starkbier in Feb-Mar... white asparagus in late spring... then strawberries... moving to Pfefferlinge mushrooms and figs... then pumpkin soup in the fall... and of course, Glühwein, Lebkuchen, and Stollen for Christmas. I'm looking forward to Feuerzangenbowle, "fire tongs punch," a winter wine punch that's kicked up a notch by pouring 80% rum onto a cone of burning sugar.

You can tell by the length of this comment that I like food!

I had that pumpkin cream soup when I was over there (did one of the Rick Steves tours a few years ago), and it was amazing! I didn't realize it was a traditional dish, but makes sense for fall. :)
